The annual Malaysia Inter-School Weiqi (Go) Competition returns under Hari Sukan Malaysia, co-organized with Jabatan Belia dan Sukan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and supported by the Ministry of Education, offering students a meaningful challenge.
12th Malaysia Weiqi Open Competition

Kuala Lumpur, August 16, 2025 — The 12th Malaysia Weiqi Open kicked off today at GMBB Kuala Lumpur, uniting over 300 players, including more than 70 international participants, in a celebration of global Weiqi excellence.
The event is honored to receive support from the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM). OCM Vice President Dato’ Dr. Chong Kim Fatt and General Manager Mr. Fong Wan Hor attended the opening ceremony, expressing their encouragement for the growing Weiqi community.
Dato’ Dr. Chong also invited the Malaysia Weiqi Sport Association (MWSA) to join the OCM, marking a potential milestone toward elevating Weiqi to a higher sporting platform in Malaysia.
Malaysia Weiqi Sport Association Presents 5-Year Development Plan to Sports Commissioner

As the official national body for Go, the Malaysia Weiqi Sport Association (MWSA) met with the Sports Commissioner’s Office of Malaysia to formally present the Malaysia Weiqi Five-Year Development Plan.
Led by President Lee Mun Kit and Deputy President Chow Ming Hun, the MWSA delegation outlined key strategies for developing Malaysia Weiqi.

Hangzhou, October 31, 2023 — Mr. Lee Mun Kit served as an International Technical Official (ITO) for the Weiqi (Go) event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
As part of the officiating team, he supported the enforcement of international standards and fair play throughout the competition. This appointment highlights Malaysia’s growing role in the global Weiqi (Go) community and reflects the country’s commitment to advancing Go as a competitive sport.

Taebaek, February 19, 2025 — The 1st Korean Baduk Congress was held in Taebaek City, South Korea, from February 15 to 19, bringing together Go players from across the region. A team of Malaysia Weiqi players took part in the event, competing in various categories and achieving several awards and prize winnings.
The delegation was led by Mr. Chow Ming Hun, who served as team leader throughout the event. The tournament provided opportunities for international competition, cultural exchange, and experience sharing among players from different countries.
Malaysia Weiqi (Go) Team Achieves Strong Results at 2nd ASEAN Mind Sport Games
马来西亚围棋国家队征战第二届东盟智力运动会
Kunming, China – August 11, 2025 — The Malaysia Weiqi (Go) Team participated in the 2nd ASEAN Mind Sport Games held in Kunming, Yunnan, from August 9 to 11. The event brought together over 300 players from ASEAN countries, highlighting the region’s rising interest in strategic mind sports.
Led by team leader Lee Mun Kit, the Malaysian delegation consisted of six young players representing Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. The team achieved commendable results across multiple categories.
The team demonstrated strong skills, sportsmanship, and continued the momentum of Malaysia’s growing presence in the ASEAN Go community.
