Selangor State Weiqi (Go) Team Selection 2025

Competition Rules

1. Tournament Format
The tournament will be conducted using the Swiss System. All participants must complete at least 5 rounds, and no player shall face the same opponent more than once.

2. Board and Scoring Method
Games will be played on a 19×19 Go board and scored using the area (territory) counting system.
The Black player will be declared the winner if they successfully place 185 or more stones on the board.

3. Pairing and Stone Color
Pairings and stone colours (Black or White) will be automatically assigned by the tournament system. In the event that both players realize, after ten (10) moves have been played, that they are using the incorrect stone colours, the game shall continue with the current colours as played.

4. Time Control
The tournament will employ the Absolute Time System. Each round will have a duration of either 60 minutes or 90 minutes, depending on the competition category. A player who exceeds their time limit will lose the game.
For Groups A and B, if a game remains unfinished after the 40-minute mark, the referee reserves the right to introduce a game clock at their discretion.
For Groups C and D, a game clock will be provided at the start of each game.

5. Late Arrival and Forfeiture
Any participant who arrives more than 10 minutes late for a match will be considered to have forfeited and will lose by default.

6. No Takebacks/Cheating
Undoing or retracting a move is not allowed. Players must place their stones carefully and decisively.
Cheating is also not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, discussing moves with teammates or using any form of artificial intelligence (AI) during the game.

7. Authority of the Referee
The referee has the authority to stop any meaningless or time-wasting behavior during the match.

8. Withdrawal from the Tournament
Participants may not withdraw without valid reason or quit midway through the tournament.
Any special circumstances must be reported in advance to the organizers.

9. Dispute Resolution
All disputes will be resolved by the Chief Referee, whose decision shall be final and binding.
